Annual physical exams
A physical examination helps your PCP to determine the overall status of your health. A physical examination is recommended at least once a year, especially in those patients over the age of 40. These exams are used to:
• check for any possible diseases so that they can be detected and treated early
• identify any issues that may become major medical concerns in the future
• update any necessary immunizations
• ensure that you are maintaining a healthy overall diet, exercise routine and check for any mental health needs
Sports physical exams
Sports physical exams will help to determine whether it’s safe for a child or adolescent to participate in specific physical activity. Most schools will require a sports physical exam before a child is able to participate in that activity. Here are some reasons why it’s important for your child to get a sports physical:
- Determine safe participation in a physical activity
- Identify any conditions that may limit sport participation
- Identify conditions that may require a treatment and management, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or certain lung conditions, like asthma
- Identifying any previous musculoskeletal injuries and recommend proper rehabilitation that can lead to lower injury rates.
- Remove any unnecessary restrictions on participation in sports
- Advise children and adolescents which sports would be appropriate for them to participate in
